OpenDNS - Answer to 'Filtered' Streamyx DNS

UPDATE: The Open Source DNS currently filtered by Malaysian ISP. Too bad.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had issue directive to all local ISPs to block Malaysian Internet surfers from accessing certain websites. To archieve this goal, Streamyx is using the old DNS trick to do the blocking or filtering or whatever terms you prefer to name it.

While I acknowledge the intention for the filtering are for good; there are some porn sites in the list, but at the same time they also blocked some blogger site which what they did was to express their freedom of cyberworld in their own way.

Unfortunately, this DNS trick of blocking had loopholes. The answer to bypass the filtering are using either Open Source DNS server or HTTP/CGI base proxy.

The easiest and best approach is to change your DNS from using Streamyx 202.188.1.5 and 202.188.0.133 to use Open Source DNS server.

Mark down this 2 magic number:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

You can surf most of the blocked websites smoothly. This is the easiest and best way because you only need to do it once in one condition the Open Source DNS server is not block by Malaysian ISP.

Talking Dictionary on Nokia XpressMusic 5800

WARNING: Always perform backup on all the data on your mobile phone using Nokia PC Suite before attempt to install the software. The author will NOT be held responsibility under any circumstances.

1) Download Talking Dictionary 1.1.5 apps from: http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/china/phones/software/TalkingDict.zip.

2) Unzip the 'TalkingDict.zip' file into PC local harddisk.

3) Connect the phone to PC via USB cable. Select 'Mass storage' Mode.

4) Copy 'TalkingDictionary_S60_SA_signed.sis' to phone memory card 'Root'; i.e; E:\.

5) Copy 'TalkingDictionary' sub-folder under 'Data' to E:\Data.

6) Copy all content of 'apps' sub-folder under 'private\10003a3f\import\' to 'E:\private\10003a3f\import\apps'.

7) Copy all content of '10202dce' sub-folder under 'private' to E:\private\10202dce'.

8) Copy '20003b40' sub-folder under 'private' to 'E:\private'.

9) Copy all content of 'apps' sub-folder under 'resources' to 'E:\resources\apps'.

10) Copy all content of 'help' sub-folder under 'resources' to 'E:\resources\help'.

11) Copy all content of 'bin' sub-folder under 'sys' to 'E:\sys\bin'.

12) Remove USB connection.

13) Launch Apps. > File Mgr. > E: Memory card from phone. Click 'TalkingDictionary_S60_SA_signed.sis'. Click OK when ask to Install:.

14) Click OK when ask to replace.

15) Select 'English (UK)' on Select language:. Follow instruction on screen.

Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia XpressMusic 5800

2) Connect the phone to PC via USB cable. Select 'Mass storage' Mode.

3) From PC, install in the following sequence:
3.1 Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian S60 3rd Edition
3.2 Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap
3.3 Garmin Mobile XT Support Files

4) Double click on 'GarminMobileXTforSymbianS603rdEdition_50050.exe'. Click 'Setup'. Select the hand phone Removable Drive, than click Install. In my example the software detected my handphone as (Removable Drive E:\. Once done, click Exit. Same steps goes to Free Basemap and Support Files installation.

5) Remove USB connection. Do NOT click on 'LAUNCH' Garmin Mobile if prompted.

6) Launch Garmin Mobile XT from the handphone. Make sure the phone USB cable is dismantle from your PC.

7) For 1st time access, select the desire language, than select Tools > Settings > About. Write down the Card ID.

8) Generate unlock code using Garmin Mobile XT keygen v1.5 2008. Enter the previous copy Card ID in the Unit ID field. Click Generate.

9) Copy the unlock code and paste into notepad. Save as sw.unl. Choose All Files option for Save as type:.

10) Copy sw.unl into Garmin folder on handphone in 'Mass storage' Mode.

11) Install the MFMv165.exe. Click Next > select 'I accept the agreement > Next > Use the default for Select Destination Location > Next. Select Original Roads ... Next. Click Install. When pop-up message Do you wish to create a gmapsupp.img? Yes. Click Generate Map. Click Yes on Proceed to generate gmapsupp.img with above options?. Click Yes on MFM gmapsupp.img has been created. So you want...? Click OK on Process completed... Click Finish. Make sure the file gmapsupp.img is stored in handphone Garmin folder.

12) Re-launch Garmin. Click Tools > Settings > System > Remote GPS > Use Attached /Built-in GPS.

13) Your Garmin Mobile XT is successfully installed.
