Why I Like It Longer

The 'Panjang' Story

1 Foreword

This story happens back in my secondary school days. It’s part of my sweet school day memories. Every time, when it flashes in my mind, I couldn’t control myself from not laughing.

OK, let me introduced the ‘hero’ of this story. Man (not his real name) is the tallest yet skinniest student in our class. Guess what is his nickname? BINGO~ Panjang. Haiya~ Another typical story about tall people. What to shout for? You’re wrong if you think he is famous for his ‘panjangness’. Instead, it’s his math that make him popular.

2 Famous Dialogue

Teacher: Man, mentang-mentang badan tu panjang, tapi hanya tahu kira 1 hingga 20 sahaja. Apa kau nak jadi bila dewasa?
M: Konduktor bus mini.

Translation:
Teacher: Man, although you’re tall but you only can count 1 to 20 only. What is your ambition?
M: Bus mini conductor

3. Dream Come True

In the 90’s, bus mini is famous for it’s driver notorious driving skills. I didn’t meet Man anymore after we graduate from secondary school. However, from others mouth, finally he fulfilling his childhood dream to become bus mini ticket conductor.

大日子 woohoo! aka Tiger woohoo!

UPDATE: Woohoo! grossed over RM4mil within 9 weeks in 38 cinemas nationwide

UPDATE: RM700K ticket sales in 4 days at 35 cinema nationwide. Great job. WooHoo!!!

GONG XI! GONG XI!

1. INTRO

NO! This is not a movie about ‘naughty’ Tiger Woods. It’s a comedy set in the world of Tiger dance (woohoo), in small village of Beserah, Kuantan. I bet everyone come across Lion or Dragon dance before. Tiger dance? Are you kidding?

In conjunction with the incoming year of Tiger on Chinese Lunar calendar, Astro and MY FM are proudly present the 1st 100% locally produced Chinese movie will screen from 14 January 2009 onwards at cinema nationwide.

I managed to attend the exclusive premier of the movie on 11/01/10 (auspicious date I guess?) at Cathay Cineplex, e@curve. The show scheduled to start at 9:00pm, 1st delayed to 9:30pm, at last start about 10pm. I would say the wait is worth it. This is definitely the best movie of ever produced by Malaysian so far… AND IS AWESOME!!! It’s the 1st ever local Chinese movie that I watch in cinema!

2. STORYLINE

Directed by Chiu Keng Guan, the movie boasts an impressive lineup of artistes such as Jack Lim, Gan Jiang Han, Royce Tan, Bernard Hiew, Jason Yeoh, Gan Mei Yan, Chen Keat Yoke, just to name few which proved in fact there are lots of talented artistes around even for the 1st timer.

The movie revolves around five different personality (must be male and born in the year of Tiger, ~so coincidence) peoples who are destined together to mastered and perform tiger dance once in every 60 years in Kampung Beserah.

3. HIDDEN VALUES

The plot emphasize on local lifestyle, incorporated with social, family and cultural values in humorous way. The movie also portrays some of the Malaysian darker side of life:

  • Difficulty live in metropolitan city for lower income group
  • Con artist at large targeted ordinary folk fortune by taking advantage of Malaysian most visible weakness, SYMPATHY!
  • Culture and tradition that are in great danger of fading away due to little or no interest from the youngster
I give it a 4/5 start for this movie~ A MUST WATCH MOVIE!!! And the Tiger cloth doll very cute 2!!!

Life's Good With DaVinci the Genius

What do they had in common?

Vitruvian Man

Flying Machine

Machine Gun

More tips, perhaps the picture below able to shed the answer:

Mona Lisa

Yes, all the above are the legendary masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci, simply The Genius.

I The Life

Born as Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci on 15 April 1452, in the small town of Vinci, in Tuscany, near Florence. Leonardo had no surname; "da Vinci" means "from Vinci". His full name literary translated as “Leonardo, son of Messer Piero from Vinci."

He is better known to the world as Leonardo da Vinci, the painter, sculptor, surgeon, geologist, mathematician, astronomer, inventor, engineer, architect, musician to name a few. He left behind great legacy that remain as the most fascinating icon in the history of both renaissance and modern world.

II The Exhibition

Direct from Italy, this world acclaimed exhibition from the Il Genio de Leonardo da Vinci Museo brings to life The Genius; Leonardo’s legacy to our lovely soil for the first time ever. Most proudly, the 1st in South-East Asia as well. Among the exhibits are original machine inventions created by modern day artisans in Italy, accompanied by high quality reproductions.

The exhibition will cover a period of time from 01/10/09 till 17/01/10 in National Science Centre, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. Visiting hours is 9am to 6pm, open daily including weekend and public holiday. Further information of the exhibition can be found HERE.

I myself as die-hard fan was very eager to see the exhibition. Thank’s to LG, I won pair of ticket back in December 09 in the “DaVinci The Genius Rewarding Blogger Contest” to visit the much acclaim exhibition.

Since young, I’m fascinating by the enigmatic smile of Mona Lisa. I had to wait for another month before I was able to visit the exhibition on 10/01/10 (auspicious date, lol). Coincidently, my princess was born during the period and I’m ‘force’ to wait for my wife confinement period over so we can ‘date’ to the exhibition.

As I can't afford paid trip to Louvre to witness Mona Lisa or to Florence, birthplace of the genius, this is an opportunity to good to be missed. And here I’m, witnessing some of the great masterpieces of a much acclaim genius. In front of my bare eyes, I browse through some of his remarkable works, inventions, ideas and drawings.

III Inside the Hall

The time is 15:37 and now I’m standing in front of the entrance, waiting in front of me are the masterpieces by a genius. It is the greatest shot of adrenaline with hopes fly high to witness the rare exhibit. Almost feel like I could fly without wing.

III (a) Timeline (1452 - 1519)

The exhibitor definitely strives to be top class in their league. The exhibits arrange neatly according to the themes in long shape forming ‘easy to find exit’ maze.

From the entrance, you’ll be greet by the introduction of Leonardo da Vinci, on video. Also, on the wall are the events that associated to The Genius in the timeline between 1452 – 1519. Also on the display is the handwritten manuscript by The Genius well preserved till today. On the left hand side wall, you’ll noticed a large drawing suppose to be the city of Florence during the era.

III (b) Flying Machine

This section showcase the great dream of Leonardo to fly freely like a bird. Here, we’ll witness different prototype of flying machine, which resemble our modern helicopter. He even design an parachute, WOW!

III (c) Mechanical

Mechanical engineering also part of Leonardo portfolio. We will witness some of his creativity of bearing to reduce friction. The best part is we allow to had hand-on on some of the exhibits. Definitely a precious moment.

III (d) Anatomy and Musician

With the fascination on the beauty of human body, Leonardo said to discreet more than 30 man and lady to draw out most completed drawing of human anatomy including wrinkles and deformities.

He also showcase his talent in music with the creation of mobile piano and drum. That’s AWESOME!

III (e) Mona Lisa aka La Gioconda

Here is the climax of the exhibition, the new inclusive revealing Secrets of Mona Lisa exhibit directly from Louvre, Paris. The original Mona Lisa painting was a French national treasure and could not be brought out of the country.

So, to feast Malaysian audience eyes is the findings by French scientist, Prof Pascal Cotte on the original painting. The Genius commissioned to paint the portrait, which he started in 1503, and completed shortly before he died in 1519.

Prof Cotte under the permission of Louvre Museum had capture 13 photos of Mona Lisa with his invention of 240 million mega pixel multispectral camera. Now that I call GODLIKE! LG should hire this guy.

Under the lense of his magnificent camera, he able to layers out the Mona Lisa completed masterpiece. The legendary portrait that survive from acid and stone attack, come with 25 secret revelations.

FACT: The white sky of the background of the masterpiece is layer using Lapis Lazurdi stone that cost a whooping $20,000/ kg, more expensive than Gold!

III (f) Painter, Domestic Machinery

Every section come with more surprises. Never expect in the 15th century, The Genius already design bicycle similar to our modern one. The most outstanding exhibits here is the renaissance art by The Genius. Also in place is the model of ideal city, modeled after plague strike Milan in 1484.

Also in place is a mini theater, narrated the story of The Genius from arts to military.

III (g) Hydraulics and Aquatic Machinery

WATCH UP! Here are the replicas of The Genius submarine, lifebuoy and SCUBA diving suit. Gosh~ I kept wonder how on earth the idea come to built diving suit with 2 stick of bamboo for breathing. GENIUS!

Don’t put a full stop yet. An arched bridge is constructed for traveling armies out of rope and easily found logs. You even can try yourself to built one here.

III (h) Military Engineering

I’m amused at Leonardo's ability to formulated mass destruction mechanical. He disclosed concrete architectural and mechanical elements that could be combined into ever more exotic and sophisticated creations. Some of the masterpiece includes Canon, Military Tank and even Machine Gun.

The anti climax is the unfinished work of Batte of Anghiari which he only managed to partial completed before his departure from this world.

IV Learning Curve

This exhibition definitely get the my mind running, marvel at the variety, complexity and creativeness of The Genius imagination. As an event that marries the intellectually stimulating with the just plain fun, the Da Vinci — The Genius exhibition is a triumph.

The exhibitions are entertaining, fun, educational, often interactive and family-orientated in all in one package. NEXT time, it’ll will be my family MUST visit event shall they plan to drop by in future.
